Recycling

Since June 1, 2009, the collection of recyclable materials has begun in the Municipality in cooperation with Green Dot Cyprus Organisation.

Recyclable materials are divided into three categories and include the following items:

PMD class

Plastic bottles and containers
Metal packaging
Beverage paper packages (tetrapak type)

Paper category

Dry cartons
Newspapers
Magazines
Advertising Leaflets
Office paper

Glass category

Glass bottles
Glass jars
Other glass packaging

Every Monday PMD paper and materials are collected from all the premises of the Municipality by a specialist crew, while glass is being collected in special bins (bells) that exist in prominent places in the Municipality.

Replacement of road lighting lamps

In Deryneia Municipality, approximately 2.000 lamps of high pressure sodium road lighting have been replaced with LED energy saving and environmentally friendly lamps. Costs amounted to approximately €240.000. It is estimated that the energy savings will reach 50% in the electricity consumption, about €48.000 annually. Also the maintenance cost for the next 8 years will be reduced by €85.000.

Photovoltaics

Two photovoltaic systems were installed, one in the Town Hall and one in the Senior Citizens Centre at a cost of €5.500 each. The Photovoltaic Systems will reduce electricity consumption in both buildings.
