Monument of the Heroically Fallen, Massacred and Missing of 1974

Τhe majestic and imposing War Memorial for the Heroically Fallen, Massacred and Missing People from the Turkish invasion of 1974 is located at the corner of  Iroon and Paphos Street, next to the theme park and the amphitheatre of the municipality and looks ahead towards the occupied city of Famagusta expressing the magnitude of the sacrifice of the honoured.

The choice for the monument was made after the Pan-Hellenic Artistic Competition in 1999 and it was created by the artists Maro Bargilly and Thimios Panouris. The landscaping of the site was designed by the Architect Andros Ropalis.

It is dedicated to 4 heroically fallen young citizens of Deryneia, Panagiotis P. Panagiotou Giorgos P. Kolani, Loizos A. Christoudias and Costakis K. Lambrias, 2 murdered, Eleni G. Thoma and Michalis Kallis and nine missing, Pieri A. Lambrou, Pieri G. Verei, Stavros K. Christoforou, Stelios A. Petrou, Themis X. Dimitriadis, Kyriakos X. Giorgiou, Maria X. Kyriakou, Kika X. Kyriacou and Andreas X. Kyriacou.

In June 2007 the bones of the missing person Pieri A. Lambrou were located in a mass grave in the village of Galatia in the Karpas region and identified with the DNA method. The burial took place on 8 July 2007 at the cemetery Deryneia with the granting of the hero award.
